First SSBM Tournament in the Books - Posted on July 13, 2008

The 2008 SSBM tournament trail kicked off today on Ponhook Lake in Queens Co. It was a successful turnout with 36 boats, held at the Ponhook Lodge Campground. A great crowd was on hand to watch the anglers weigh-in their catches for the day. Although the weather was great, the fishing was less than stellar, but the winning team of Peter Cook and John Ingram managed 8.96 lbs of fish! With the lunker of 3.1, was the team of Shawn Sears and Chris Atkinson

All stats for Ponhook, Team of the Year, and Total Lunker of the Year have been updated. You can find these stats in the tournament trail and standing pages respectively. The next tournament takes place on the 27th on Big Mushamush Lake. Hope to see you all there!

President, Mark Weare, has created a forum for use by all nova scotia bass clubs. This is in an effort to build camaraderie within the clubs and to ultimately make NSBCC more successful. This new forum should eliminate any hacking and/or pop-ups that might have occured on previous forums. There is a specific forum for SSBM. Please check it out at http://www.thefirstcast.com/forum.

AGM Meeting Completed - Posted on March 10th, 2008

The SSBM AGM for 2008 has been completed. The meeting commenced with Jason Leblanc giving a presentation to the club about Smallmouth Bass, the presentation included a report of their recent nesting studies, future projects, as well as an explanation to the new angling regulations for 2008 in regards to bass tournaments. The club would like once again to thank Jason for his presentation, it was very informative.

Following that we drew the raffle tickets, 3rd place and 75 dollars went to Bill Sarty, 2nd Rob Weagle, with 125 dollars. Free entry fees for 2008 was won by Vincent Connolly, congratulations Vincent. We then confirmed the old minutes, and went past old business rather quickly. New business discussed a few important topics. One, their is proposed national regulations for boat speed limits within 30m of the shore. This regulation is rumored to commence sometime over the summer. The discussion was made that SSBM needs to strictly abide by these rules if they do in fact go into place as it will affect the image of the club.

There was then a discussion about Mushamush and it was agreed that the club would supply $250 dollars to the appropriate parties for road improvements. There was then a lengthly discussion about the possibility of a new launch at PonHook Lake. The club agreed to fund the launch for the new area as long as they were provided with access, an open area, and parking. Note is to be made here that if this does indeed go through, the club will be looking for funding from both the government and other organizations that would look to use the launch there. This investigation is being headed by Jeff Ingram.

There were a minor discussions about a few things. The club hopes to get new weigh bags in soon, when they are in and looked at by the executive, we will order more and hope to have 8 for tournament season. However, we will only have 5 or 6 bags in circulation during the tournaments. The new rule implemented at the last meeting states that teams cannot weigh fish if they are not in an SSBM bag. They may place their own bag in an SSBM bag, but they must have an SSBM bag or the fish will not be weighed. This is to reduce stress on the fish. We will also have a more organized and distinct bag line and weigh line. We hope to have these areas designated at the tournaments. This will minimize confusion on where the lineups are and ables better viewing of the weigh-in. In addition, there is a new rule in place at the mersey river tournaments. At the top of the river system where the big boulders lie just beneath the surface, this will be an idle zone only. The club hopes to have this area bouyed, it was discussed that this area is dangerous on plane for both the boater and surrounding boats.

There was then the election of the 2008 executive. Gary Smith, Rob Sarty, Kevin Corkum, and Cody Lohnes all kept their respective positions. Mike Myra has stepped down from the presidents position to Social Director. The 2008 SSBM president is a former president, Mark Weare. The club seemed more than happy with the 2008 executive. A note here also is that Tremayne Nauss accepted the weighmaster duties again for SSBM, a thanks goes to Tremayne for that. The new executive hopes to have all major sponsors for tournaments, team of the year, and total lunker of the year categories secured within the next month or so, these will be advertised on the site when known.

Thanks to all the SSBM members that showed up to the meeting, heres to another successful SSBM season!
